Fragrance Design & Contract Manufacturing

Atelier Madrona partners with brands to create custom private label fragrances and fragranced products, offering both artistry and end-to-end production support. Whether you’re developing a signature perfume or cologne, a line of candles, room sprays, or other air care products, our team of Perfumers and artisans will help bring your vision to life.

We are more than a perfumer for hire—we are a contract perfumer and boutique manufacturing partner. From fragrance design and formulation to testing, compliance, packaging, and small-batch manufacturing, Atelier Madrona provides a seamless path from concept to finished product.

Every great fragrance starts with a conversation.

Developing a custom fragrance is one of the most intimate creative processes a brand can undertake. It takes time — typically four to ten months from first brief to finished product — and it requires real collaboration. Here's what that looks like when we work together.

1. Interview & Creative Brief

2-3 weeks

Before a single ingredient is selected, we spend time understanding your brand — its story, its values, the feeling you want someone to have when they encounter your scent. We'll sit down together for an hour-long interview, then take that conversation further through research and reflection before preparing a written creative brief for your review. The brief becomes our shared creative compass for everything that follows. Nothing moves forward until you've approved it.

2. Sketch Design

3-4 weeks

Working from the approved brief, we develop three to five initial scent sketches — distinct olfactive directions that begin to answer the question of what your fragrance could be. Think of these as creative propositions, not finished products. Each sketch is an invitation to react, to point toward what resonates and away from what doesn't. Your feedback here is some of the most valuable input in the entire process.

3. Creation & Refinement

4 weeks to 6 months

This is where the real work happens. Taking the direction you responded to most strongly, we develop it into a finished fragrance through as many rounds of refinement as your formula needs. There's no limit on revisions — we don't move forward until you're genuinely satisfied. The more specific your feedback, the faster we converge. But we never rush a formula that isn't ready.

4. Testing & Regulatory Compliance

3–4 weeks

Once your formula is approved, we produce a pre-production sample batch and put it through a rigorous review process — sensitization assessment, IFRA compliance, EUand FDA standards, and full documentation including your IFRA certificate, Safety Data Sheet, Certificate of Analysis, and allergen declarations. For brands with additional compliance needs — EWG, Sephora Clean, Credo, and others — we offer extended compliance services. Your fragrance arrives market-ready.

5. Production

90 days

With compliance confirmed and formula approved, we scale your fragrance from sample to full production. The pure concentrate is blended, diluted, and macerated — a minimum three-week curing period that allows the finished fragrance to fully develop before bottling. We handle production in-house for most volumes, and we manage every step with the same care we brought to the formula itself.
